Tribute to Lhola, an Unforgettable Companion
LhoLa, the dog that started it all, our model for independence and excitement, has left us. First we send our biggest hugs and thoughts for such a huge loss to Dr. Luanne Freer, who was with LhoLa for over 15 years. We also send our best to Wes Johnson, Luanne’s partner, who has been by her side. We want to mention all of the friends and family who had the good fortune to spend time with LhoLa.

Painting Party at the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital
In May of 2022 the Musa team gathered together for the first time since the pandemic outbreak at the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital. Here is a video that does a great job of showing the challenges the team faced and the amazing friendships that were formed when this group was brought together.
We send our greatest thanks to the staff of the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital who welcomed us and adapted to our presence while treating a steady stream of patients every day.

Traditional Sherpa Fashion with Ang Diku Sherpa
Hey everyone, we are bringing back one of our favorite and most popular posts, Sherpa Fashion, by Ang Diku Sherpa. This was one of our earliest posts at Musa Masala and it is sought out online for all the great details on the beautiful clothes worn during festivals and formal events in the Sherpa culture.
A lot has changed at Musa Masala since it was originally published. Now, Ang Diku is the General Manager of Wongchhu Peak Promotion. She's also instrumental in the success of the construction and operation of the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital.
Enjoy the post and contact us if you have any questions about Sherpa fashion and traditional dress. We will bring you more soon! Jam jam!!

Season's Greetings to All from Musa Masala
As 2020 thankfully draws to a close, we want to take a few moments to thank everyone who has supported us through this fearful year. Our members and friends have experienced some truly horrible things. We hope you all are coping as best as you can, and that next year will see a new, brighter and healthier time for all of us. We have a few things going on in this post.

A Season for Hope: The Musa Masala Holiday Gift Package
This year we wanted to put something special together for the end of the year. We wish you all health, happiness and a brighter future. In the Shadows of Everest: Gaëtan LaMarre and the Khumbu Climbing Center
Gaëtan Lamarre is a documentary filmmaker from Canada. We at Musa Masala were lucky to get to interview him as he took his short film about the Khumbu Climbing Center, In the Shadows of Everest, around to film festivals. This film is just stunning. It captures the beauty of the Khumbu region and the village of Phortse in such detail. The story of how the center came about is fascinating. There is so much good stuff here. Read on then please watch the film at the link below and make a donation to the Alex Lowe Foundation. Enjoy!

"Call it Karma" with Geoff Browne in Tibet
In the spirit of true adventure travel, Musa is happy to bring you Geoff Browne, filmmaker and photographer. We interviewed Geoff about his ‘drop it all and go style’ that led to his acclaimed documentary, Call it Karma, a story about a Tibetan monk’s journey to save his monastery. We included the links to the trailer as well as the film at the end of the interview. Thanks, Geoff, for taking the time to chat with us and for sharing this great story. We also look forward to hearing more about your project in Nigeria.Tell us about the film 'Call it Karma." How did it come about?

Here we are with a quick wrap-up of the first book events for Musa Masala: Mountain Girl of the Himalaya. We printed some preview copies in Kathmandu and they all sold! We had to print additional copies to cover the orders we received at the preview launch. Our Musa Masala Kickstarter is LIVE!
Today we started our Kickstarter campaign for Musa Masala: Mountain Girl of the Himalaya!
Our reason for the Kickstarter is simple: to raise the funds needed to create our book and bring it to the public. Costs for the magic it takes to print and promote a book of this nature are considerable and once they are met through the Kickstarter, all proceeds will go directly to the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital Fund. In other words, we need to raise this money to make that support happen.

The First Musa Masala Art Sale and Silent Auction: WMS Winter Conference, Lake Tahoe
Wow what a time we had. The Musa Masala team descended on Lake Tahoe for the Wilderness Medical Society’s Winter Conference. Not only was it another great opportunity to learn from some amazing instructors and speakers on the finer and rougher points of wilderness medicine, but it was the first big fundraising project by Musa Masala: an art sale and silent auction in conjunction with our merchandise table!

All of us at Musa Masala are thrilled to invite you to an art show and silent auction during the WMS conference in Tahoe this week! The event will take place on Saturday, February 24th from 6-8pm, where attendees will have a chance to peruse the pieces and place bids.
