Lama Dai Walks to the Top of Everest!

On May 20th of this year, Rajesh Lama (Lama Dai),  summited Mt. Everest. Okay, a few people do that every year — pretty cool, a major athletic and mental feat. But that’s just part of it…

On April 1st, Lama and his partner, Rachana Lama, left their home in Kathmandu and started walking to Mt. Everest. After doing the two passes trek, they reached Everest Base Camp. Then, after an acclimatization climb of Mt. Lobuche, he took a short rest before heading up Everest. Oh, and a stint as the event medic for an endurance race, too. So, a busy spring outing…

That seems like a lot, but it is just one of the latest adventures for a truly unique adventurer and entrepreneur in Nepal. Lama Dai is also the founder of the trekking company, Lama Walks. He is also a founding director of Himalayan Medics, an education and medical resource for wilderness medicine in Nepal. He is an advocate for training women as trekking and mountain guides and speaks on that topic as well as environmental issues facing the Himalaya and Nepal specifically.

As an amazing public speaker, Lama's speaking engagements are exciting and provocative. I met him when he emceed the Musa Masala Climbing Competition with Wongchhu Peak Promotion at the Kathmandu Sport Climbing Center in March. We were so lucky to get him to create a powerhouse atmosphere at our Advanced Lead Climbing Competition on Nov. 23rd, again at KSCC with Wongchhu Peak Promotion. So much more will be coming on that.

Okay, this is getting long and it’s just the intro! Musa Masala is proud to have helped sponsor Lama's climb of Everest along with The North Face and Mountain Man Energy Bars, a Nepali company (check them out!!).

Here is a video of Lama Dai telling his story. We know you will enjoy it. And we appreciate you, Lama and Rachana. Jam Jam!!
